The effect of the Using of Manipulatives (Number Card and Dienes Blocks) in the Teaching of Operations on Integers on Sixth Grade Students' Achievement


Abstract | الملخص

This study aimed to identify the influence of the using of manipulatives (number card and dienes blocks) in the teaching of operations on integers on sixth grade students' achievement in Jordan when their studies operations on integers compared to the traditional manner. The researcher used the experimental method based on experimental and control groups. The sample of the study consisted of two groups chosen intentionally from sixth grade students in Aisha Abu Bakr in the Rusaifa district: The control group which was taught in the usual way and it was one class taught operations on integers which consisted of (32), the experimental group which was taught the correct processes using card numbers and dienes blocks which consisted of (32) students. The study tool was applied, which is an achievement test of (pre and post) on the control and experimental sections. The study reached many results, the most important of which were the differences of statistical significance at the level of (0.05) between the average scores of the control and experimental groups on the achievement in favor of the experimental group. The result showed that there were a statistically significance at α=0.05 between the average scores of the experimental group and control group after their studies to the question of numbers and operations on them in the post test in favor of the experimental group. In the light of these results and their conclusions, the study came out in recommendations that schools should be interested in providing the educational means and the need to establish mathematics lab in each school containing the tools and educational tools used in the teaching of mathematics
