Abstract

This paper analytically studies al-MahZourat al-Nahwyia (syntactically forbidden structures) which occurs in Arabic in short and long sentences. Arab grammarians referred to this phenomenon in their discussion of al-Mumtani (impossible) and ghayr al-jaiz or al-khata’(wrong). This study aims to outline the philosophy of this phenomenon and its fields within the linguistic system of Arabic. It also tries to figure out, by using a historical method, the origins of this term in grammarians’ works so we can, at last, create a clear conception of this phenomenon on the level of syntax. The paper tries also to explain al-MahZourat al-Nahwyia, in all its forms, by general norms in Arabic such as meaning, e’rab (parsing), talazum (correlation), Sadarah (syntactic priority), as well as al-Usūl al-Marfouda (rejected foundations). In addition the study pointed out that this phenomenon is associated with samā (attestation), qiyās (analogical reasoning), agreements and disagreements among grammarians, poetic necessities as well as some analogically accepted forms of speech forbidden by Islam. It is argued that all judgments which are closely related to illa’ (cause). Those judgments are changeable in terms of their illas.

Pages: 131 - 143

Abstract

The article is an attempt to analyse the learning action components and the interactive relationship linking the elements in binary and multiple order at the same time, so as to achieve harmony between the different parties, given that action learning is considered as the core of the educational learning process, or even its essence whatever the different approaches to the target teaching, the established educational programs, the applied educational procedures, as well as the teaching methods used in learning knowledge and specific means. In fact, the success of the teacher in his mission depends largely on the mastery of the roles of these basic components that make up teaching triangle and its effectiveness, as it must also depend on accurate perception of the interactive relation that arises among these same components, and the knowledge of the various phases through which knowledge passes from well-defined concepts, included from the original source, and which should allow integration into learner’s knowledge. Teacher’s scientific competence is not enough to make him a qualified one, able to carry his message if he does not have, clearly in mind, the role of other components of the triad of education. One should also know if he is unable to properly use the mechanisms needed to improve their functioning in a work adapted to different learning situations to which he is called to deal with during the educational process exercise. Thus, the teacher must be able to analyze the teaching acts components in order to achieve its educational objectives, for they are the basis upon which lays the teaching process as a whole and which naturally depends on the success of a good revitalization. The teacher must also be equipped with all professional potentials, namely the suitable teaching means, and develops appropriate conditions to activate mutual relations that link these elements and lead them in the right direction to achieve the targeted educational objectives. In this sense, the article seeks to demonstrate the nature of the relationships that exist between all elements (components of teaching act) so as to up-date them, trying to explain their interactions and thereby prevail the need for their contribution in the success of teaching learning process.

Abstract

This research aims at presenting reading in “Eizis” play by Dr. Nawal El Saadawi from (aesthetic of reception) perspective or ‘Reception Theory’, particularly as regards theoretical and application efforts of the French researcher and theorist Patrice Pavis whereby it is supposed that explanatory reading of any text is determined by the text itself, and that it is impossible for the reader to create without respect of the text’s aims. that is to say that the reading method imposed by the text offers to reach it through interaction and reaction between the text and the reader, in addition to the aware check to the text on the basis of ideological direction intended by the implied author or the “ideal author”. The research necessitated, before the reading application, that it presents a theoretical framework through reviewing ‘Reception Theory’: definition, its roots in the old and modern criticism thought, literature sociology and explanatory and aesthetic theories, then review of the thoughts of the first pioneers and modern theorists like: Wolf Gang Izer, Hans Robert Jaus, Umberto Eco and Patrice Pavis.

Abstract

The culture of a language is a real part of its soul which can't be separated from it in any way. So both teachers and learners must be aware of this in order to consider culture as one of the systems that governs language as well as audio, morphological, lexical, and the grammatical systems. Because new learners' purpose is to be individuals who are socially accepted according to their linguistic capabilities that will enable them to communicate effectively with the native speakers of that language –after considering the social cultural dimension of the language-. This is presented and discussed in this research which is supported with the opinions of a group of students who are learning Arabic as a second language.

Pages: 200 - 217

Abstract

The aim of this study is to focus on the attitude of the Jordanian society toward early marriage. This field study was held by the use of a questionnaire especially designed and distributed to a sample at random of males and females. The questionnaire took into consideration that there were several changing factors involving the study. A total of 500 copies of the questionnaire were distributed and 462 copies were recovered. The study used the method of statistical analysis. The study concluded that the trends of the Jordanian society toward early marriage were positive. However, this did not mean that there were no negative factors as agreed by all respondents to the questionnaire. One of the most important social reasons for early marriage was the domination of the parents over their children and their decision to resort to marrying off their daughters at an early age. The respondents to the questionnaire also agreed that the good economic standards of the young man willing to get married at an early age is viewed by most families as a reason for getting rid of the burdens and expenses of the bridge. The majority of the respondents to the questionnaire also agreed that early marriage had a negative impact on the social, economic, health and educational aspects of the married couple, particularly that it leads to violence against women and children; an increased rate of divorce; emotional, psychological and social unrest in women; and an increased rate of poverty. The negative effects also lead to a deteriorating economic situation of the family, unemployment, increased ignorance, and denying girls the opportunity to complete their education.

Abstract

Assimilation of Segments in Modern Standard Arabic: Schane's (1973) Views on Generative Phonology

en
Authors: Atef Jalabneh
Keywords: Assimilation, Segment, Regressive, Progressive, Partial, Total, Consonant, Vowel.
Publication year: 2012
Pages: 260 - 283

Abstract

The objective of this work is to elaborate the phonological process of assimilation in controlling the output of phonological segments at the phonetic form in Modern Standard Arabic phonology in view of Schane’s (1973) perspective in generative phonology. The researcher suggests that are two types of assimilation, namely, (i) progressive and (ii) regressive. In each type, there is either a partial or total transfer of features to the adjacent segment so that the assimilated segments are classified into natural classes without influencing the semantic interpretation. The change is regarded partial if a segment changes its place but maintains its manner of articulation. However, the change is total if the same segment loses its manner of articulation whether the place is toughed or not. To get clear results, phonological rules are posited to check (i) which segments change, (ii) how they change and (ii) under what conditions they change. In case of variables, certain notations such as alpha, beta, sigma etc… are used to avoid confusions in results. Though gemination is seen similar to assimilation in the output at the phonetic form, it is a kind of consonant cluster in the base meant to create new lexical items which constitute minimal pairs with non geminated forms.

The Indicators and Measurements of Arab Democracy

Pages: 284 - 299

Abstract

This discourse addresses one of the most important issues that face world communities, especially the Arab ones. It is the issue of democracy, which has become the only and true indicator through which the integrity and rationality of political systems are measured. In order to the researcher to approach the question of the indicators and the measurements of Arab democracy, this study has setup a hypothesis that is based on the fact that the methods of accountability and control are totally tied with the realization of the existence of a political will. And in order to test this assumption, the researcher adopted the methodologies of the systems analyses, the decision-making, and the political elites. This is viewed within a historical reading of the democratic experience through the study. The study falls within three discourses. The first addressed the democratic components in the Arab political thought. The second spoke about the level of accountability and transparency in the Arab democratic experiment. The third discourse surveyed the measurement indicators in the Arab homeland. The researcher concluded by calling on the Arab political systems to pay attention to the measurement indicators of democracy that have been established in the advanced political systems.
