Abstract

Abstract This paper engages with the phenomenon of concurrence of syllables, both in terms of utterance and meaning, or meaning only. It points out how grammarians observed the concurrence of these features. Some of them accepted it, some objected to it on the grounds that the concurrence and succession of syllables even at the level of meaning is not desired in Arabic. Even those grammarians who consented to this linguistic phenomenon set conditions for it which this paper seeks to identify and examine .

This comes through commenting on the patterns of Intertextuality, its shapes and images that offer the receptor an opportunity to read and interpret. The study is centerd around two pivots: Theoretical Background: This deals with intertextuality perception from Western and Arab critics. Application : This includes a practical study of Intertextuality concept and revelations in different forms within the Letter; most important are religious, literary, and historical intertextuality. It also shows its influence on the text in form and content. It has been noticed that intertextuality is a deep interaction between texts, and an influential element as the new text becomes a mixture of different previous or present texts that affects its language, structure, style, and meaning. Eventually, it is reading tool, and a search for its deep structure and a revelation of its aesthetics. Moreover, it has been shown that Ibn Zaidoun has intensively articulated on intertextuality in structuring his Letter as he quoted a lot of literal and demonstrative Quranic quotes which embodied events , stances, and stories derived from the Holy Quran and the Prophet Bibliography along with Islamic History. Additionally, he embodied famous poetry of great poets, and current Arabic proverbs in order to cast a Aesthetetics of frame and provides it with imaginative potentials. Abstract

This study aims at exploring an unknown pre-Islamic poet, who has seldom been mentioned by researchers in this era. He has rarely been referred to in literary and historic references compared to other pre-Islamic poets, who have become widely acclaimed, and have a clear literary presence. The authors of this study have found that the poet, Salmah Bin Al Khurshub Al Anmari has works that are dispersed in several heritage sources. Linguistic and grammatical evidence can be found occasionally; however, the evidence is not abundant but, rather, is scattered and – in a certain respect- repetitive. In addition, there are two poems in AlMufaddaliyyat and Munta AlTalab. We believe the most important aspect of this study is to compile the poet’s work into a single source, for ease of reference and as a beneficial guide. Our first concern is to explore the poet’s works and dissipate any misconceptions originally attached to them. The study will also examine the principal issues related to the poems in terms of content and technical aspects. As a prelude to this end, we will first review the poet’s life and familial background, relying on the scarce sources available in this regard, as there appears to have been little reference to the poet’s life, with the exception of his sister Fatima. We will also review the poet’s works in a temporal context, and shed light on the sources containing his works. Key Words: Salama Bin AlKhurshub, Poet, Investigation.

Revolution and Pathological Creativity: The Egyptian Model from a Kristevan Perspective

Publication year: 2015
Pages: 295 - 300

Abstract

This paper makes use of Kristeva's concepts of the revolution and the more recent one of revolt. While the first one relates the personal and the aesthetic with the social, the second one focuses solely on the psychic as it is represented in art and psychoanalysis. As the microcosmic leads necessary to the macrocosmic, an amalgamation between the two terms becomes more functional. The Egyptian Revolution is shown here as the perfect model of this aesthetic, political revolution where creativity burst in the form of death drive. The semiotic penetrates Tahrir Square and abjection becomes the quality of its tenuous borders.

The Syntax of Complex Tense Constructions in Standard and Jordanian Arabic

en
Authors: Rania Nayef Yousef Al-Aqarbeh
Keywords: clause structure; complex tense constructions; bi-clausal; monoclausal
Publication year: 2015
Pages: 301 - 319

Abstract

The study presents a Minimalist account of the syntax of Tense in Arabic. I assume that Tense is not morphologically realized, but independent structural evidence, e.g. subjects’ Nominative Case and the availability of expletive subjects, suggests the presence of an independent TP in the Arabic clause structure. Simple tense constructions are monoclausal with one TP; complex tense constructions are biclausal with two TPs that differ in their categorical feature structure. This proposal explains the semantic temporal dependency of the embedded clause on the matrix clause, and the impossibility for the embedded T head to host the Arabic tensed negative particles.

Temporal Interpretation in Standard and Jordanian Arabic

en
Authors: Rania Nayef Yousef Al-Aqarbeh
Keywords: Tense, Aspect, Pseudo verbs, temporal interpretation
Publication year: 2015
Pages: 333 - 360

Abstract

This paper addresses temporal interpretation in Arabic in which the distinctive morphological verbal forms are grammaticalized forms of Aspect and not Tense. Therefore, the language adopts other linguistic tools to achieve temporal interpretation. The aspectual viewpoints provide pragmatic cues to temporal location of eventualities. Bounded eventualities are interpreted as past; unbounded ones as present. Furthermore, some pseudo verbs, e.g. ‘aSbaHa ‘be in the morning’ and temporal adverbs, e.g. amsi ‘yesterday’, introduce temporal interpretation lexically, i.e. by their meanings. Their similar lexical contribution is supported by the similar logical forms of them analyzed within the NeoDavidsonian Framework.

The utopian space in the theater of Marivaux

Abstract

Utopia and theater are two terms related to the human imagination. In fact, who says imagination says creativity, unreality and otherness. At the dawn of humanity, man is born unfulfilled and always looking to improve his life. He became a dreamer or traveler. the dissatisfaction led him to find a solution. In diving in his dreams , he draws cities, companies or islands where happiness and serenity ensure his euphoria. In penetrating his thoughts, he invented the theater for fun. On stage or on an island , the vacuum makes man sketching cities. From Plato's Republic , through Homer's Odyssey , to Thomas More 's Utopia , the notion of utopia comes to embody the stories in literary dreams of human beings to a better life. Marivaux is committed to make this clearer reverie. He settled it in the scenic " empty " to make it authentic . In celebrating the ancient Saturnalia , celebrating the Reason , by challenging a patriarchal society , Marivaux take us back to his islands to discover the theatrical and utopian world, on the image of the island of Utopia of Thomas More , where quiet and blissful communities live in harmony and respect for human values. By combining utopia and the theater, the stage and the island, the real and the ideal , good and evil, Marivaux wrote his utopias which we have chosen to stop and to abstract in semilogoy

This study aims at shedding light on the social integration of foreign students studying at the Language Center at the University of Jordan in their Arab environment through the examination of their social relations with Jordanian citizens and Arab students in Jordan. The study also focuses upon the difficulties that they face and how comfortable and satisfied they are as well as the relation of that with some changeable elements as the age of the learner, his / her social status, and the residency duration in Jordan. The study encompasses a theoretical and a practical approach. The first approach deals with combining the study’s problem, its limitations, assumptions, and an identification of social integration whereas the second deals with a sample of eighty two male and female foreign learners of diverse nationalities at the Language Center and other foreign learners distributed at different humanities faculties at the University of Jordan. The material of the field study had been compiled from the writing of the sample students and their answers to the questions of the study in addition to previous information collected from the former writing of students in advanced levels at the Language Center.
