Publication year: 2016
Pages: 157 - 177

Abstract

The present paper demonstrates that Stylistics has become multiple Stylistic Schools. Accordingly, stylistic approaches differed in their interpretations of literary texts. The three observed mainstream elements were (Creator, Text and Recipient). Furthermore, these constituted the milestones in demystifying the uniqueness of literary texts and its distinctive features. The current research asserted that the common textual feature from the lens of all stylistic approaches is dealing with ‘Style’ as a world of uniqueness which relates to a special use of language to break the semantic frameworks for relish sake. Moreover, stylistic approaches are concerned with choosing among alternative linguistic choices to express semantic productions in response to stylistic prompts that reflect the aesthetic power of language in unprecedented uses. However, Stylistics depends on linguistics to demonstrate structural transformations for the sake of aesthetic impacts. This research accentuates that literary texts are coherent textures based on relish, epistemological vacuum, and implied meanings towards a different structure led by unique deviations. The present research is composed of five aspects which are: First: Style (Difference in Conceptions). Second: Style (Aesthetic Choice and Extensive Representations). Third: Stylistics from Informitivity to Influence. Fourth: Literary Text Theories between Style and Stylistics. Fifth: Drawing Relations between Stylistics and Linguistics

Abstract

From a structural perspective, this paper explores the extent to which certain words referred to as noun phrases (NPs) are used as quantifiers in Standard Arabic. It exceptionally excludes the logical quantifiers that have clear and constant references as quantifiers, such as the articles, numbers and numerals. The paper also examines exclusively the demonstrative pronouns (as Arab linguists traditionally refer to them on the prosodic level). From a semantic view, the article classifies the Semitic demonstrative pronouns as syncategorematic words that syntactically spread either anaphorically or cataphorically. It also subcategorizes them functionally as endophoric, exophoric and anaphoric proximal words. Unconventionally, the paper also exploits first order logic to re-categorize them as universal and existential references. Truth values and meaning postulates for the propositions in which the demonstrative NPs used, are drawn and calculated. For its precision and concision, the paper benefits as well as cites from The Noble Quran

Abstract

This study aims to diagnose the current conservation state of the mosaic floor of the virgin church in Madaba in Jordan, and to identify the mosaic materials as well as the deterioration forms on the mosaic floor. To achieve these objectives, several investigation and analysis methods were used, such as: visual and optical examination, Scanning Electronic Microscope attached to energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (SEM/EDS) and X-Ray Diffraction(XRD). These methods revealed that Calcite is the main mineral of all limestone tesserae samples (CaCO3, Calcium Carbonate) and the calcite here is the microcrystalline Calcite which is known minerologically as (Micrite). All the stones surfaces seem to be inhomogeneous pitted, curviplanar, surface-planar and highly fractured forms . Large areas of the weathering crusts were destroyed and rich in dissolution voids and micro-cracks. Addition to that, other aspects of flaking, and highly fissured nature of decayed crusts were also observed In addition, the mosaic floor was exposed to different deterioration aspects such as: lacunae, incrustation, depressions, bulge, detachment between preparatory layers, salt efflorescence, and biological activity. The study confirms that it is necessary to conserve the mosaic floor in order to avoid further damage.

Publication year: 2016
Pages: 300 - 312

Abstract

This paper compares Bare Argument Ellipsis (BAE) in English and Arabic languages and it focuses on the deletion of the verb in BAE construction. It attempts to prove that BAE is systematically applied in both languages. Even though Arabic and English have some differences in the application of Ellipsis in general, BAE applies in a highly similar way in both. The methodology followed in this paper is descriptive and analytical. The sentences are syntactically analyzed depending on the Minimalist Program. The paper concludes that BAE follows the same rules, in both languages, with respect to: identity, the type of the remnant, locality restrictions, recoverability, the type of the antecedent among others.
